How the wheel behaves
Every wheel slows the same way: a little less each turn.
Your drag sets the speed. When you let go, the wheel keeps six percent less of its speed every sixtieth of a second, so a hard flick runs for a few seconds and a nudge stops almost at once. The readout is that number, live, not an animation.
A sideways swipe turns it; an up or down swipe still scrolls the page. With reduced motion on, it never moves unless you move it.
Glazes
Three glazes, fired once each.
Every vase is thrown from the same stoneware body and dipped in one of three glazes. Try them on the wheel above: the swatches change the real model’s glaze.
- 01 · Natural
Bone satin
A soft white that lets the throwing lines show through at the shoulder.
- 02 · Indigo
Night indigo
Pools darker in every groove, so the spiral of the wheel stays visible.
- 03 · Tomato
Kitchen tomato
A warm red that breaks to brown on the rim, where the glaze runs thin.
The studio
Five slow steps, about three weeks.
A small fictional studio with one wheel and one kiln. Visits are on Saturday mornings, by request.
Throw
Centred and pulled on the wheel in one sitting.
Trim
Turned leather-hard to thin the foot and sharpen the shoulder.
Bisque
A first firing, so the clay can take the glaze.
Glaze
Dipped once, wiped clean at the foot.
Fire
A long glaze firing and a slow cool, then it is yours.
Reserve a piece
Hold the next one off the wheel.
